New Staff Attorney

In June, the Mission First Legal Aid Office was blessed to add Corey Gerber as a new staff attorney. Corey, a Pike County native, attended Southwest Mississippi Community College upon high school graduation. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi and then a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Mississippi College School of Law.

Between his time at USM and going to law school, Corey was a science teacher and coach. He says that he was content teaching and coaching, but “an opportunity to grow presented itself and I took it.” Corey, a Dean’s List scholar, graduated from law school in 2016 and opened his own law practice in his hometown of Magnolia, focusing primarily in criminal defense and family law. He is a certified Guardian Ad Litem and has maintained his certification since graduation. Before coming to Mission First, Corey served the Pike County Youth Court as conflict counsel. Now he also serves with the Rankin County Youth Court.

Corey says that “Mission First is a lot more than just providing legal aid to those in need. I feel that my experience and talents and not just my legal abilities can be used to meet the needs of others in the communities in which Mission First serves.”

We are thankful to have Corey serving alongside us.
